I vaguely remember the original Rolling Thunder in the arcades. I know you could use doors to dodge enemies and get powerups, but that was the extent of my knowledge. When I played Code Named: Viper on the NES, I could definitely see the influence Rolling Thunder had on it. When I finally played Rolling Thunder 2, I was impressed with just about every aspect of the game. Rolling Thunder 2 is a colorful and vibrant game. The levels are beautifully detailed and aren’t dull to look at. The enemies don’t differ much, but I really didn’t care. The different colors they don indicate how difficult they are. The main characters are well detailed. The music creates an appropriate atmosphere. It isn’t poppy or sugary, but more on the serious side due to being an action spy game. The gunshots are nicely done which adds to the fun. Rolling Thunder 2 is a side scroller which was a popular genre back in the day. You move mostly right and sometimes up and down. The main gimmick is that you can hide behind doors to evade enemies and you can also ascend or drop down levels above you. You shoot, jump, duck, and toss the occasional grenade. The game controls well making it easy to pick up and enjoy. That being said, I have to warn that Rolling Thunder 2 is not an easy game. The later levels will test your patience and endurance. You will die many times and play levels over and over again. There isn’t anything wrong with that, but to people who weren’t raised on these types of games, it can be frustrating. Heck, even to people who have been raised on these games will get frustrated, we just know what to expect. Rolling Thunder 2 does employ a unique password system that uses words that create strange phrases. It isn’t too hard to use and is better than some other games that used a ton of letters and numbers. I’m looking at you Super Monaco GP. Is Rolling Thunder 2 the quintessential Genesis game? I would have to say no, but it is a very good game. If you own a Genesis and haven’t played this game, you would do yourself a favor and try it out.Read full review
I really enjoy the Rolling Thunder video game & buying # 2 on eBay was a no brainer. The game is very challenging side scrolling shooter game. I can't get past level 3. I look forward to buying the 3rd Rolling a Thunder for Sega Genesis off eBay soon as well as Sunset Riders from Konami.

In my opinion, the best Sega Genesis arcade style cross screen shooter game. The 2-Player mode is excellent as well.
